DDR3 - Next Generation DRAM Technology
DDR3 platform technology continues to innovate Mobility, Digital Home, and Digital Enterprise
applications to meet end-user needs for memory bandwidth and density, power and thermal management,
and small form factor. Qimonda benefits from its many years of experience in the design and
production of ultra-high-frequency communications products.
Advantages:
- Data transfer rates of up to 1.600 Mb/s (Mb per second)
- Doubles the maximum data transfer rates of today’s DDR2 memories
- Reduced supply voltage from 1.8 V for DDR2 to just 1.5 V for DDR3
- Limited power consumption and heat generation
DDR3 SDRAM component densities are standardized from 512 Mb through 8 Gb. Module
densities will range from 256 MB (based on 512 Mb components) all the way up to 8 GB (based on 2 Gb
components) for standard JEDEC modules. Higher module densities beyond 8 GB for special
applications like servers may be introduced soon.
