AMB: Advanced Memory Buffer
Qimonda is driving the next generation of server memory. The Advanced Memory
Buffer (AMB) is the central part of Fully Buffered Dual In-Line Memory Modules
(FB-DIMMs) creating a serial point-to-point connection between memory controller,
the DRAM components on the FB-DIMM and subsequent FB-DIMMs. This
memory architecture enables high bandwidth and high-capacity memory subsystems
for applications such as servers, workstations, and premium desktops.
Qimonda’s solution for the first generation AMB features data rates up to 4.8 Gbyte/s
on the high-speed interface and supports DDR2-533 up to DDR2-800 DRAM
components. The AMB supports RAS features like failover modes for increased
system reliability. Built-in test features such as MEMBIST for memory testing
and IBIST for self-test of the high-speed links provide comprehensive design for
test capability. Additional test features like transparent mode and direct DRAM
access enable enhanced memory testing at the module level.
