Scintillating city state …

Singapore’s position at the tip of the Malay Peninsula makes it a popular destination for a mixture of tourists and business travelers seeking a foothold in one of the four Asian Tigers (Singapore, Hong Kong, South Korea and Taiwan). After initial colonization in 1819, Singapore grew to be one of the most important commercial and military centers of the British Empire until World War II. The standard of living has risen dramatically since independence in 1965 and today, Singapore is an ethnically diverse and multi-denominational metropolis – with its citizens practicing Buddhism, Taoism, Christianity, Islam, Sikhism, Hinduism and others. The cultural diversity is represented in the mix of foods, dress and architecture in the capital, Singapore City. It is a regional hub for international travel and a popular gateway to destinations in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam.
